PREPARATION

WORK

Constant water infiltration leads to wood rot and decay. These repairs are a common part of preparation for painting the exterior of your home.

Correct preparation consists of the following:

Washing (high pressure cleaning and hand washing)

Scraping

Priming (all stains are self-priming)

Sanding

Caulking

STAINING

MITA will select the right product for your woodwork surface. Stains are available in solid and semi-transparent forms. Solid stain is opaque and resembles paint while semi-transparent stain allows the wood grain to show through. The choice between the two is a matter of personal preference.

SUGGESTED MAINTENANCE PROGRAMME

It is advisable to clean and re-coat exterior woodwork every 1-2 years, particularly north facing surfaces that receive direct sunlight.
